Custom-Shop 14 x 10 Air Control – BRUTAL!

This drum was a special order for a customer in the USA, who wanted our innovative and special Air Control System coupled with a hybrid system. He wanted this on a drum of unusual size – 14″ x 10″. Initially, we didn’t know how to do that, and started to discuss how we would build this BRUTAL, almost scary instrument, with its brute power and aggressive look!

The external shell is 8mm thick solid aluminum. We built it out of a 10mm thick solid sheet of aluminum, which was calendered, welded, turned and put through a milling process to create the grooves for the ball bearings that control the sliding Air Control system windows to open and shut.

The internal shell is out of a solid block of wood, also turned and milled at the windows. Actually, this internal shell is a composite of two shells joined by a system of gear teeth – so that the system can work.

The hardware is finished in Brushed Old Copper, the hoops are of turned solid aluminum (Hard Hoop Aluminum), and heavy-duty solid brass lugs are the “Grand finale” of this killer instrument!
